DID YOU KNOW…?
Researchers found that three out of every four Americans don't get adequate amounts of vitamin D.

Can Vitamin D deficiency affect my health?
Yes. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to heart disease, chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, hypertension, arthritis, depression, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, PMS, Crohns Disease, cancer, MS and other autoimmune diseases.

How much Vitamin D do I need?
The current recommended intake of vitamin D is 200 IUs (international units) for those up to age 50; 400 IUs for people 51-70; and 600 IUs for those older than 70.

How long do I need to stay out in the sun to get the recommended intake?
Experts say going outside in the midday sun for 10 to 15 minutes with your arms and legs exposed will produce 10,000 IUs.

How do I get enough Vitamin D?
"Sunlight is the easiest, it's free, and your body is very efficient at making vitamin D from the sun, and it lasts twice as long as other sources," says vitamin D expert Michael Holick, PhD, MD.

Have there been any studies done on Vitamin D deficiency?
Yes!  A recent study done at the Heart Institute at the Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City Utah examined 27,686 patients aged 50 and older with no history of cardiovascular disease.  The study found that those with low Vitamin D levels were 77 percent more likely to die early than those with normal levels.  They were also found to be 45 percent more likely to develop coronary artery disease and 78 percent were more likely to have a stroke.
